Manawave Phases

Init World

  • Reveal 3 Faction Choices
  • Place Default Monuments
  • Reveal 3 Faction/Playset Monuments with Locations
  • Set up Manawave with 0 Round Counters

Init Selection

  • Each player secretly vetoes a Playset Monument and selects 2 distinct Faction Choices
  • Each player secretly chooses where to place their 3 Starting Clans adjacent to each of Monument positions.
  • Both players reveal their vetoes, selections, and placements simultaneously.

Start Manawave

  • Add 1 Round Counter to Manawave.

Family Selection

Draw and reveal 3 cards from the Family/Bloodline Card Pile. These cards will be denoted as Choice A, Choice B, and Choice C. Each player will secretly indicate one of these choices. When both have made their selection, they will be revealed simultaneously.

Family Placement

  • In secret, each player will choose where to place the Family they selected by attaching it to the top or bottom of one of their Clans. Add the Family's initial counters to the Clan Tracker and set the initial modality.
  • Players will choose modality based on available modality options.

Manawave Execution

Execute Manawave in Monument and Clan order. Some counters will be added to the Clan tracker and some to the Tribe tracker.

Counter Placement/Purchasing

Counter placements and purchases will be made in secret and then revealed simultaneously. If there are any counters in your Tribe tracker, assign them to invidual Clan trackers. Once both players have assigned all of their counters, reveal board states and proceed to Monument Resolution. Conversions can include:

  • Convert mana into attack, shield, or population increase counters.
    • Clans may convert their mana counters to Attack counters at a 1:1 ratio, up to a maximum of how many population counters are present on that Clan.
    • Clans may convert their mana counters to Shield counters at a 1:1 ratio, up to a maximum of how many population counters are on that Clan.
    • Tribes may convert mana counters to Attack counters at a 2:1 ratio, up to a maximum of how many population counters are present on all Clans for that Tribe.
    • Tribes may convert mana counters to Shield counters at a 2:1 ratio, up to a maximum of how many population counters are present on all Clans for that Tribe.
  • Convert mana into Modality counters and assign to Families
    • Each modality has a cost. Any modality may be chosen as long as its cost is less than or equal to the number of Modality counters on that Family.

Monument Resolution

Going in Manawave order, resolve each Monument. Monument resolutions may end in victory for one of the Tribes. If there is no winner, proceed to Monument Conflicts.

Monument Conflicts

Going in Manawave order, resolve conflict at each Monument. For each Clan at the monument, perform these steps simultaneously.

  • War Phase: Take number of Attack counters and subtract number of opposing Clan shield counters (can't go below 0). Remove that number of Population tokens from opposing Clan.
  • Sacrifice Phase: Take number of Sacrifice counters on each Clan and remove that number of Population tokens from that clan.
  • Take number of Population Increase counters on each Clan and add that many Population tokens to that Clan. Do not add more Population tokens than are already there (e.g. if you have a Population of 4, you can't add more than 4, even if you have 5 or more Population Increase counters).

Consolidation

  • Remove Attack, Shield, Sacrifice, and Population Increase Counters from Clan and Tribe Trackers.

Family Placement

Each player will choose where to place a Family denoted by their card by placing it on an imaginary line that either ends at the center of a Nexus or midway between two Nexus tiles. Their tile will slide forward until it is stopped by the Manawave itself or by another tile.

Each player will secretly select and indicate one of these choices by revealing a Nexus line (e.g. N0 for the left most slot, N1.5 for the Nexus slot between Nexus tiles 1 and 2). When both have made their selection, they will be revealed simultaneously.

Init Manawave

The manawave is coming. Add 1 strength token during the Init Manawave phase to increase the manawave's strength.

Tile Card Picks

Draw and reveal 3 cards from the Tile Card Pile. These tiles will be denoted as Choice A, Choice B, and Choice C. Each player will secretly indicate one of these choices. When both have made their selection, they will be revealed simultaneously.

Resolve Manawave

Execute the manawave by processing the occupied tile spaces on each player's side simultaneously, starting with the space(s) closest to the Manawave Source and moving to the tiles in each next row until all the rows for that Nexus line have been processed. Then, move to the next Nexus line and start from the space(s) closest to the Manawave again. Keep doing this until all tiles have been processed.

To process a tile, refer to the the text on the card and execute the tile's text following the "On 🌊 (Manawave)" trigger.

Note that Monument tiles will have rules text that describe the way the Monument can win or lose the game for its player.

Finalize Manawave

The Manawave completes when it reaches the Manawave Sink tile.

Token Placement

After the Manawave completes, there may be player counters to be placed. In secret, each player decides where and how many of each counter they would like to place. They then reveal their decisions and move to Token Consolidation.

Token Consolidation

During Token Consolidation, players accumulate counters, convert them to tokens, and clear the counters from the tiles.
